Shannow Family Resource Centre (FRC) is one of 121 FRC’s nationwide, and is core funded through the TUSLA Child and Family Agency.
As a Family Resource Centre, we are part of Ireland’s largest family support programme delivering universal and preventative supports to families and our community.
We have a particular focus on the implementation of Better Outcomes, Brighter Futures: The National Policy Framework for Children and Young People.
This Framework sets out five National Outcomes for children and young people:
That Children, Families and the Broader Community are:
- Active and healthy with physical and mental well being
- Achieving full potential in all areas of learning and development
- Safe and protected from harm
- Have economic security and opportunity
- Connected, respected and contributing to their world
The Shannow Family Resource Centre opened its doors to the community in 2008. Since this date we have gone through significant change. Moving from a pre-development stage to where we are today in 2019 has been an exciting, challenging and rewarding experience for both staff, volunteers and the Board of Management. The catchment area of Shannow FRC has expanded over the years from the original Kilflynn, Abbeydorney and Killahan areas incorporating the electoral division of Kilfeighny in 2012 and , at the request of our support agency, the electoral division of Lixnaw in 2016 .
Today Shannow FRC is a bright, welcoming, vibrant centre that offers a range of community development and family support services. Our Staff and Board of Management are committed to providing the best possible service to our community and value feedback from individuals and groups.
